Septorhinoplasty combines cosmetic reshaping of the nose with correction of a deviated septum in a single operation. It is performed with the goal of improving the outward appearance of the nose and easing airflow in people who have long-standing nasal blockage and are also unhappy with the shape of the nose.
The surgeon usually operates under general anaesthesia and reaches the bone and cartilage through incisions inside the nose, or through a small incision across the columella in the open approach. Cartilage and bone are reshaped, the septum is straightened while leaving enough support, and cartilage grafts may be used when needed.
The operation often takes two to four hours, and a splint stays on the nose for about a week. Visible swelling settles over several weeks, but the final result usually becomes clear only after about a year as the last of the swelling resolves gradually.
The final cost is set after a medical consultant reviews your case and photos.

It may improve breathing through the nose and refine its shape in one operation, so two separate surgeries are often avoided. The degree of improvement varies from person to person.
A good candidate is usually an adult whose nose has finished growing, who has a deviated septum or nasal blockage, wants a change in nasal shape, is in good general health and has realistic expectations. The surgeon decides after examination.
The surgeon usually requests blood tests and an anaesthesia assessment, and reviews your medicines. Stopping smoking well beforehand is advised. The doctor decides whether and when blood-thinning drugs such as aspirin should be paused, so never stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
It is usually done under general anaesthesia through incisions inside the nose or by the open approach with a small incision at the columella. The septum is straightened, bone and cartilage are reshaped, the incisions are closed and a splint is applied.
Blocked nose, swelling and bruising around the eyes are expected in the first weeks, and the splint is usually removed after about a week. Many people return to desk work within one to two weeks, while strenuous exercise waits for several weeks on the surgeon's advice.
The shape improves over weeks, but the final result may take around a year as the last of the swelling subsides. Results are generally long-lasting, although the nose can change slightly with healing and ageing.
Risks include bleeding, infection, a collection of blood in the septum (which needs urgent treatment), asymmetry, persistent blockage, temporary numbness and the risks of anaesthesia. Rarely, a septal perforation or loss of nasal support occurs, and a revision operation may be needed. The surgeon explains these before surgery.
With the closed approach the incisions lie inside the nose and are not visible. With the open approach a small mark remains across the columella, which usually fades over time until it is hard to notice.
Many surgeons advise waiting about a week to ten days, since pressure changes can cause discomfort while the nose is healing. Your treating doctor confirms the right time for your case.
Smell may be reduced and the voice may sound different for a while because of swelling and congestion; both usually return to normal over weeks to months. A lasting change is uncommon and should be discussed with your surgeon.
