A mommy makeover is a surgical programme that combines several procedures in one session to treat the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding on the body. It usually includes abdominoplasty and a breast procedure such as a lift, augmentation or reduction, sometimes with liposuction, with the aim of restoring body proportions and improving appearance as far as possible.
The surgeon chooses the procedures to suit each woman. In abdominoplasty, excess skin and fat are removed and separated abdominal muscles are tightened; the breasts are reshaped according to the plan. It is performed under general anaesthesia and may take several hours, so the surgeon limits how many procedures are combined for safety.
A short hospital stay is common, followed by several weeks of rest, a compression garment and no heavy lifting. Bruising and swelling settle gradually over weeks, and the final result usually becomes clear after six months to a year.
The final cost is set after a medical consultant reviews your case and photos.

It may treat loose abdominal skin, separated muscles and breast changes after pregnancy under a single anaesthetic, which can spare you several separate recovery periods. That single recovery is usually harder than after one procedure alone.
Women who have finished having children or do not plan a pregnancy soon, have a stable weight and good health, and still have changes that exercise and diet cannot correct. It is usually not advised in the first months after birth or breastfeeding.
Tests are done, smoking must stop completely for several weeks beforehand, and your weight and medicines are reviewed. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own; your doctor decides.
The agreed procedures are performed one after another under general anaesthesia, in an order the surgeon chooses. The surgeon may split them into two stages if that is safer.
Expect several weeks of rest, and no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for about six weeks. You will need help with childcare in the early period.
The shape improves gradually and usually settles in six months to a year. Results may last for many years if weight stays stable, but a later pregnancy or weight change may alter them.
Because several long procedures are combined, the risks of blood clots in the legs or lungs, which can be life-threatening, bleeding, infection, fluid collections and poor wound healing are higher. Loss of some skin or asymmetry may occur, and smoking raises these risks considerably.
Yes, scars remain across the lower abdomen and on the breasts, depending on the procedures. They are usually placed where they can be hidden and fade over a year or more, but they do not disappear completely.
Because long operations increase clot risk, doctors usually advise waiting several weeks before a long flight, but your treating doctor confirms the timing after examining you.
Pregnancy is medically possible, but it can undo the results of the abdominal and breast surgery. It is therefore best to have the operation after completing your family, and to discuss your plans with your surgeon.
