Tuberous breast correction is surgery for a disorder of breast development in which the breast has a narrow base, constricted tissue, a long and underfilled form and a prominent or widened areola. The goal is to reshape the breast and improve its symmetry and contour; it treats appearance and does not necessarily prevent breastfeeding difficulties.
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia. The surgeon releases the constricted tissue within the breast and widens its base, reduces and reshapes the areola through an incision around it, and may add volume with a silicone implant or fat transfer, sometimes with a breast lift. Incisions are hidden where possible around the areola or beneath the breast. Complex cases may need two stages.
Surgery usually takes two to three hours. Swelling, bruising and tightness are expected, a supportive bra is worn for several weeks and strenuous activity is avoided. Many people return to desk work after about one to two weeks. The breast shape settles gradually, and the final form is usually clear after several months.
The final cost is set after a medical consultant reviews your case and photos.

It may improve breast shape, widen the base, reduce the prominence of the areola and make the breasts more symmetrical. Many patients may feel more confident about their appearance, although results vary between individuals.
A good candidate has completed breast development, is old enough for surgery, is in good general health and has realistic expectations. The plan depends on how pronounced the deformity and asymmetry are, and the surgeon chooses the approach after examination.
The surgeon assesses your health and may request tests and breast imaging. You may be advised to stop smoking well beforehand and to avoid blood-thinning products. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own; your doctor decides.
Under general anaesthesia the surgeon releases the tight tissue, reshapes the breast base and areola, and adds volume with an implant or your own fat if needed. A lift may be included, and in some cases the correction is done in two stages.
Swelling, bruising and mild pain are expected and relieved with the medication your doctor advises. A supportive bra is worn for weeks, and lifting and strenuous activity are avoided. Return to desk work is often possible after one to two weeks.
Most swelling settles within weeks, and the shape is usually clear after several months. The result often lasts many years, but the breasts are affected by weight change, pregnancy and ageing, and implants may need review or replacement later.
Risks include infection, bleeding, blood or fluid collections, changes or loss of nipple sensation, rare loss of areolar tissue, asymmetry, capsular contracture and implant shifting, and a result that needs revision. Breastfeeding may be affected, and anaesthesia risks and blood clots remain possible. The surgeon explains these frankly beforehand.
Yes. Scars remain around the areola and possibly beneath the breast or vertically, depending on technique. They are usually fine and improve over time but do not disappear completely, and may be more visible in some people.
It is usually advised to wait about one to two weeks until swelling settles and the wound is checked, moving around often during the journey to lower clot risk. Your treating doctor confirms the right time.
The condition itself and the surgery may affect breastfeeding, so discuss this with the surgeon before the operation. Implants may call for a special mammography technique, and the technician should be told about them.
