Labia majora augmentation with fat transfer is a cosmetic surgical procedure that restores volume to the outer labia when fullness has been lost through ageing, significant weight loss or other factors. The aim is to restore fullness to the area using the patient's own fat rather than artificial materials.
A suitable amount of fat is collected from a donor area such as the abdomen or thighs with a fine liposuction cannula, then purified. It is injected in small, carefully distributed amounts into the labia majora through tiny puncture sites. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia, depending on the case.
The procedure commonly takes one to two hours. Swelling and bruising last one to two weeks, and patients are advised to avoid pressure on the area, tight clothing and sexual intercourse for several weeks as directed. Part of the fat is absorbed, so the final result usually becomes clear after three to six months.
