Face and neck lift surgery tightens loose skin and deeper tissues of the lower face, jawline and neck, with the goal of a smoother, better-defined contour that still looks natural. It commonly addresses jowls, deep folds between the nose and mouth, and loose skin under the chin, but it does not stop ageing or improve the quality of the skin itself.
The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia, or local anaesthesia with deep sedation. Incisions typically begin at the temple within the hair, run in front of and behind the ear, and may extend into the scalp. The surgeon lifts and repositions the deeper tissue layer, trims excess skin, and may tighten neck muscles through a small cut under the chin.
Surgery commonly takes three to five hours. Swelling and bruising peak in the first week and usually ease over two to three weeks; stitches are often removed within seven to fourteen days. Many people return to desk work after about two weeks. The final result usually becomes clear after several months, once swelling has fully settled and scars have matured.
The final cost is set after a medical consultant reviews your case and photos.

It may reduce sagging around the jaw and under the chin and restore a more balanced facial and neck contour. It does not treat fine surface wrinkles or sun-damaged skin, so additional treatments are sometimes considered.
A good candidate is usually an adult with visible sagging of the lower face and neck, skin that keeps some elasticity, good general health and realistic expectations. Your surgeon decides after an examination.
Your doctor usually requests blood tests and a health assessment and reviews your medicines. Stopping smoking for several weeks beforehand is strongly advised, and aspirin, anti-inflammatories and some supplements that increase bleeding may need to be avoided. Never stop a prescribed drug on your own; your doctor decides.
Incisions begin at the temple and pass in front of and behind the ear. The skin and the deeper tissue layer are lifted, repositioned and secured, and excess skin is removed. A small incision under the chin may be added to tighten neck muscles.
Swelling, bruising, tightness and numbness are common in the first weeks. Sleeping with the head raised and avoiding strenuous activity for several weeks is usually advised, and stitches are often removed within about two weeks.
Results appear gradually over several months as swelling settles. A lift does not stop the ageing process, so ageing continues afterwards, but the improvement often lasts many years, varying from person to person.
Risks include a collection of blood under the skin (haematoma), which may need urgent treatment, infection and delayed healing. Temporary numbness or weakness of facial nerves can occur; lasting nerve injury is uncommon. Smoking raises the risk of skin tissue death and poor healing. Anaesthesia risks and blood clots are also possible.
Yes, but incisions are usually placed within the hairline and in the natural creases around the ear, which hides most of the marks. Scars are red at first, then fade and mature over about a year, though scarring varies between individuals.
Patients are generally advised to remain near the surgical team for roughly seven to ten days at minimum for follow-up and stitch removal. Your treating doctor confirms the right time for you. Long periods of sitting can increase clot risk, so this is taken into account.
Sometimes it is combined with a brow lift, eyelid surgery, fat transfer or laser skin treatment. Your surgeon decides whether combining is safe for you, as longer surgery may add risk.
