Chin augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that increases the projection of a small or receding chin so that the lower face looks better balanced with the nose and lips. Its goal is improved harmony of the facial profile.
It is usually performed by placing a silicone or other solid implant through a small incision inside the mouth or beneath the chin. Alternatively, the chin bone itself can be cut and moved forward, a technique called sliding genioplasty. Local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia is used, depending on the approach.
Surgery typically takes one to two hours. Swelling and bruising are common during the first two weeks, and a soft diet and a supportive chin dressing are often advised. Many people return to light work after about a week, and the final shape usually settles over three to six months.
The final cost is set after a medical consultant reviews your case and photos.

It may give the chin more definition and improve the balance of the face in profile. It can also make the jawline look more harmonious with the nose. The degree of change varies with each person's facial structure.
A good candidate is usually a healthy adult with a small or receding chin and realistic expectations. People with bite or dental problems may need an assessment by a jaw surgeon before deciding.
Your surgeon will usually request blood tests, review your health and check your medicines. Never stop a prescribed drug on your own, because the doctor decides what to pause or continue. Stopping smoking for several weeks before and after surgery is advised.
An implant of suitable size and shape is placed in a pocket in front of the chin bone through an incision inside the mouth or under the chin. In the bone technique, the chin bone is cut and fixed in a more forward position with small plates.
Swelling, bruising and tightness are common in the first days, and rest, head elevation and careful mouth hygiene are advised. Many people resume light work after about a week, while strenuous exercise is usually delayed for several weeks as your surgeon directs.
Most swelling settles within a few weeks, and the final contour may take three to six months. Results often last many years, although ageing and tissue changes can alter the appearance over time.
Risks include infection, bleeding, asymmetry and implant movement. Numbness or weakness of the lower lip or chin may occur; it is usually temporary but can occasionally be prolonged or, rarely, permanent. Implant removal or revision is sometimes needed, and the bone beneath the implant may change over time.
An incision inside the mouth usually leaves no visible skin scar. If the incision is placed under the chin, the scar is small and usually fades with time, although healing differs from person to person.
Surgeons usually advise waiting about one to two weeks, until swelling has improved and healing looks satisfactory. Your treating doctor confirms the right timing after examining you.
An implant adds volume and is a simpler, quicker option, while genioplasty moves your own chin bone and may suit those who need more advancement or a change in height. Your surgeon chooses after assessing your face and teeth.
